The
pioneering settlers who arrived in
the Cape in 1952 certainly demostrated
their faith in the Cape's remarkable
potential, while putting their lives
ar stake to develope it. The
fact that they named their new land
The Cape of Good Hope reflected their
faith in their enterprise as much
as in the nbatural splendor of the
land itself. Wine grapes were
one of the first crops to be grown
here. Having been planted in
1655, the very first Cape wine flowed
in 1659 - go give that some context,
this wine was about one and one half
centuries before Austrailia was even
settled for the first time.
At
The Winery, they have been analyzing
and experimenting in various sites
around the Cape , across an array
of cool climate areas, high altitude
locations and warmer though coastal
spots, using numerous grape varieties,
styles and techniques. The most exciting
results that they have unearthed are
from the totally unassuming though
inspiring Perdeberg Mountain , in
the Swartland. We agree with The Winery
that this West Coast site is the best
kept viticultural secret in South
Africa .
